RE: City of Morgantown, Downtown Historic District Revitalization Subgrant Program
Dear Senator Manchin:
As a (building owner, non-profit, business owner, developer) I strongly encourage and support
Morgantown’s proposal for the Downtown Historic District Revitalization Subgrant Program.
History plays a significant role in everyday life in West Virginia. Many of the historic buildings in
our downtown were built with much higher quality materials than what is used to construct
today’s modern buildings. Revitalizing a historic commercial building can be an excellent long-
term investment in many different ways. Historic commercial buildings in downtown
Morgantown are well-built, and often offer great flexibility in the reuse of space, such as
converting second and third floors into private living spaces.
The objective of the city’s subgrant program is to support the rehabilitation of commercial
properties and foster economic development in our historic downtown. The subgrant program
can be used for a broad range of physical preservation activities to support the rehabilitation of
buildings downtown. Projects will be based on building need and community impact.
The economic impact on our community would be astronomical, and I fully support this
initiative, which the City of Morgantown is proposing on behalf of our Downtown Historic
Commercial District.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
