Rail Trails of North Central West Virginia
Former railroad lines converted to trails offer tremendous
opportunities for recreation. These trails are generally flat in nature
and vary from paved surfaces to crushed limestone. The trail head is
located in Main Street Morgantown's Wharf District, at the Train Depot
in the Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park.
Caperton Trail
Offers 8 miles of paved surface perfect for rollerblading, strolling
and biking. Located within the Morgantown City Limits, this trail runs
through Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park, which also features a
beautiful amphitheater. This trail was named in honor of former
Governor, Gaston Caperton.
Decker's Creek Trail
This trail offers an 1,800 ft. incline over 18 miles. It begins at
Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront park and parallels Decker's Creek into
Reedsville.
